Elder Abuse Conference educates caregivers

Jan 19, 2010 | Associated Press | WVVA News

The Raleigh County Commission On Aging hosted it's annual Elder Abuse Conference Friday.

The free conference was open to the public, but designed to provide continuing education credits to nurses, social workers, and occupational therapists.

Over a hunderd people signed up for the event.

Presenters focused on recognizing the types of elder abuse and the symptoms of victims and abusers.

Most experts believe the crime of elder abuse is underreported; therefore, one of the goals of the conference is to bring awareness to those involved with the elderly.

The Elder Abuse Conference was possible thanks to state grant money from the Bureau of Senior Services.
