Woman Charged in McMinn Nursing Home Abuse

Nov 7, 2008 | Associated Press | Channel 2 News

An employee of a McMinn County nursing home has been charged with abusing a 74-year-old blind woman.

Etowah police arrested 37-year-old certified nursing assistant Joyce Stanley, of Madisonville, for willful and physical abuse on Wednesday.

The victim and other workers told police Stanley struck the woman with a clipboard and an incontinence pad, as well as pulled her hair and slapped her.

The Etowah Health Care Center suspended Stanley when the abuse complaints were made, and its administrator said the home doesn't tolerate abuse.

The Tennessee Department of Health's Web site shows Stanley has had no violations and has been a certified nursing aid since November 2002.
