Family, Billings hospital reach settlement in malpractice case
Apr 9, 2008 | Associated Press | Montana's News Station
A settlement has been reached between St. Vincent Healthcare and a family that sued the hospital after their daughter suffered serious medical problems during birth.
Blake and Jennifer Jaeger filed the lawsuit in 2006 against Dr. Chimene Dahl, as well as an anesthesiologist and the hospital, because their second twin was born with permanent brain damage. Terms of the settlement were not released.
The settlement was announced yesterday -- two days into a scheduled three-week jury trial.
The lawsuit claimed that a communication failure delayed an emergency Caesarean section when an anesthesiologist was not immediately available. The emergency C-section was required when Dahl discovered during the birth that an umbilical cord was pinched.
The anesthesiologist was dismissed from the lawsuit before the trial began.
