A CONSTRUCTION company has been hit with a £38,000 penalty after an incident in which a road roller toppled into an excavation on a Pontarddulais building site.
The driver leaped from the three-ton roller as it lost traction on an earth ramp and slid sideways, Swansea Crown court heard.
However, in jumping for his life, Glynneath father- of-three Kevin Trump fell into the hole and sustained major injuries.
Abergavenny-based Randalls Groundwork Ltd admitted breaching a general duty to an employee in terms of safety, an offence under the Health and Safety At Work Act 1974.
"The directors of the company wish to express their sincere regret and apologies to Mr. Trump and his family for the accident," defense counsel Robert Vernon told the court.
