Gerardo Fragoso has been working construction for most of his adult life, but for the last seven years of his employment, he's done it without his legs.

"It's not that difficult for me anymore, it used to be," he said.

Fragoso was playing a dangerous game of chicken when he was run over by a train, losing both his legs and his steady employment in construction.

For years after the 1988 accident, employers doubted he could meet the physical demands of the job, but he proved them wrong when his future boss noticed his talents seven years ago and gave him a job.

"I've never seen anyone work that fast," said Francisco Lozano, his boss. "He fits in places I don't fit. I'm six foot one and he's about three feet tall. He has an advantage down there."

Fragoso's advice to people facing challenges?

"Don't give up. Don't give up no matter what," he said.
