The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office said a man and woman found dead at a rest stop along I-95 last month died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
On Jan. 14, a man was walking his dog at the rest stop, just north of the Flagler-St. Johns County line. He told officers he thought a parked car was empty until he smelled something strange and saw two people inside. Investigators confirmed the two people inside were dead.
Investigators later identified the victims as 23-year-old Kenneth Oldham and 22-year-old Kayla Hinton. Both were from Kentucky. The medical examiner's office then performed a toxicology screen, which revealed a 45 percent concentration of carbon monoxide in the victims.
