Nearly 30 residents of Olathe's Pinnacle Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation center were moved to a different area of the facility this morning after low levels of carbon monoxide were found.

A 911 call from the nursing home staff prompted firefighters to check the center's Hall 4 just before 8 a.m., fire department spokesman Mike Hall said. Firefighters traced the carbon monoxide to a malfunctioning heating unit and shut the appliance down. Workers from Atmos Energy assisted.

Pinnacle Ridge is at 400 S. Rogers Road, near Interstate 35 and Santa Fe Street.

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas that accounts for half of all fatal poisonings in the U.S. each year, Olathe fire officials said.
