Students and staff at The Valley Program were evacuated Monday morning due to concerns about high levels of carbon monoxide.

"When the boiler was turned on for the first time today for heat, it seemed like the fan was blowing carbon monoxide back into the building instead of out to the chimney," Principal Kathy Vuoncino said.

Children who arrived Monday morning at the school building at Our Lady of Victories Church on Lynn Street were taken to the nearby Harrington Park School, Vuoncino said. They were sent home at 10 a.m., she said.

Vuoncino said PSE&G was investigating the problem but that it appeared minor. She expected school to be open today.

The Valley Program is a public school for special needs students from 5 to 14 years old.
