A 62-year-old Garden City man has confessed to killing Cheryl Boeskool, the woman who police identified today and whose body was found Tuesday in a murky pond in a Northville Township subdivision, police said tonight.
Northville Township Public Safety Director John Werth said the break in the case came when a relative of Boeskool saw her picture through the news media and called detectives to put them in touch with other relatives in northern Michigan. Those relatives told detectives about Boeskool's boyfriend.
Werth said the boyfriend, whose name was not released because he has not been charged, confessed to killing Boeskool in his Garden City home and dumping her in the pond.
An autopsy at the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office indicated she died of multiple blunt force trauma to the head. Her death was ruled a homicide.
The identification was made through a fingerprint check. Werth said Boeskool of Garden City was arrested in a Detroit suburb Aug. 2 and that officials believe she may have been in the pond in a subdivision off Haggerty Road between 5 and 6 Mile roads for a day or two.
The case has been turned over to Garden City Police who are continuing to investigate. The suspect is in custody in Garden City.
