WOBURN - A 15-year-old city resident was transported to Lahey Clinic's trauma unit Tuesday after he sustained serious head injuries in the front of the new high school.

According to police reports, Officer John Lally was sent to the front entrance and gym area of the new WMHS on Tuesday after dispatchers were informed that the teen had been involved in a bicycle accident.

Upon arrival, Lally observed a crowd attempting to assist the 15-year-old, who was lying on the road near a curb and had severe swelling to his right eye and temple area.

The youth was also violently struggling with those who were trying to help him, behavior that the officer immediately recognized as consistent with severe head trauma.

After city paramedics transported the boy to the area hospital, witnesses recalled that the 15-year-old was attempting to do a stunt on his bike when the front tire bumped into a planter.

The adolescent then lost control of his bicycle and flipped over the handlebars, landing directly on the side of his head without any other part of his body breaking his fall.
