Three people were taken to hospitals after carbon monoxide leaked from a water heater at a Bellevue apartment complex.

Crews were called to Southwind Apartments, 4736 Virginia St., at 11:10 p.m. Wednesday. Firefighters were airing out the building when someone from Metropolitan Utilities District arrived minutes later to shut off the gas.

Mari Matulka, a spokeswoman for MUD, said the gas would be turned on after repairs were done.

Two people were taken to Nebraska Medical Center and one to Midlands Community Hospital, a Sarpy County dispatcher said.
