(WJZ/AP) LUTHERVILLE, Md. Baltimore County fire officials say three teenagers were taken to area hospitals overnight after a carbon monoxide scare at a Lutherville apartment building.
Mary Bubala reports it happened in a ground floor apartment at the Cardiff Charles Apartments on Nightingale Way, near the Baltimore Beltway.
Battalion Chief David Murphy says two girls, ages 13 and 15, were home alone and the older girl turned on a gas-fired heater because she was cold. An 18-year-old brother arrived home about 2:30 Friday morning, heard an alarm from the carbon monoxide detectors and led the girls out of the apartment.
Murphy says the girls were sent to Greater Baltimore Medical Center and the brother was sent to Saint Joseph's. The injuries are not life-threatening.
Eighteen other people in the three-story building were examined by paramedics and were allowed to return to their apartments.
