DeLand police are investigating a Monday evening traffic crash in which a motorcyclist was killed.

A DeLand man was killed in the accident, which occurred about 5 p.m. at International Speedway Boulevard and Lexington Avenue, Cmdr. Randel Henderson said.

Witnesses told police Jack Nicholson Jr., 40, was southbound on Lexington and stopped at the intersection. He attempted a right turn onto International Speedway Boulevard, also known as U.S. Highway 92, and rode into the path of a westbound sport utility vehicle driven by Kiara McCoy, 18, of DeLand.

Nicholson died at the scene, Henderson said. No one in the SUV was injured.

The westbound lanes were closed for more than two hours while police investigated the accident. No charges have been filed.
