Roads Remained Messy Long After Storm Passed
Feb 12, 2010 | Jason Zimmerman | WBAY News
In the Fox Valley, the storm passed well before ten o'clock but the roads were still a mess.
All the plows were out but a number of major roadways -- Highway 41, Highway 441, and even College Avenue -- had snow-covered lanes and countless slick spots.
It was a mess for anyone attempting to venture out, Thursday night most people were simply digging out or staying inside
It left tires spinning in a lot of snow on city streets and even major highways.
"The two of us were driving earlier and it was rough, yeah. We almost got into an accident. That was when it first begun snowing. I think it was worse for driving right around then," Mike Serra from Rockford, Illinois, said.
In just a few hours the storm dumped several inches of snow on the Fox Valley.
Blowing and drifting snow created another hazard for drivers.
"I'm a pediatrician and God knows I've lost a lot of patients to car accidents. Drive careful, please, and wear your seat belt," said Dr. Roger Green, who was stuck in the storm.
Thursday night most people were simply digging out or staying inside, but others couldn't resist being outside despite freezing temperatures.
"It's pretty cold but nice snow. Good for snowballs," Myla Green said.
Serra didn't feel crazy for driving in the weather. "I'm not going to second-guess the public. I mean, maybe we are," he said. "Maybe we just don't know any better."
Other spots south of Appleton didn't receive as much snow but we're told ice was a huge problem south of Oshkosh and in Fond du Lac.
