Crash with train kills man
Nov 12, 2007 | Terri Richardson | A Domino, Texas, man was killed instantly after he drove into the path of an Amtrak passenger train
A Domino, Texas, man was killed instantly after he drove into the path of an Amtrak passenger train at County Road 3624 Sunday morning. The victim was reportedly talking on a cell phone at the time of impact.
"According to his son, the driver was talking to his son on a cell phone at the time of the crash," said Trooper Eric White with the Texas Department of Public Safety, who investigated the crash.
Michael Wayne Treadway, 57, was the driver and only occupant of a camouflage 1990 model Ford Bronco. He died on impact, White said.
Treadway, who was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident, was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:15 a.m. by Justice of the Peace Charles Robison, police said.
Treadway's body was taken to Hanner Funeral Service in Atlanta and an autopsy has been scheduled, White said.
"It looks like he was talking on the cell phone and was not paying attention," said White.
The southbound Amtrak train, known as the Texas Eagle, had one engine and six cars. The 71 passengers and six crew members aboard were not injured, White said.
