Police stun dog with Taser gun
Apr 7, 2008 | Staff | Lancashire News
Armed police in Lancashire had to stun a powerful terrier dog with a Taser gun after it attacked its owner. The animal was stunned with the 50,000-volt electric shock gun after it turned on its owner, paramedics and police.
Officers were then able to approach the dog, believed to be a Staffordshire bull terrier, to tie it up with rope before taking it to the police station in Blackburn.
It had first turned on its owner, a 46-year-old woman, while she was wa lking it in woods in the town.
When paramedics arrived to treat bite wounds to her legs, they had to withdraw after the dog then attacked them.
The first police officer to arrive also had to back off until armed officers arrived with the Taser.
The owner was taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital for treatment. The paramedics and police were not injured.
A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "The dog has now been taken to the police station for further inquiries to be made. It is possibly a Staffordshire bull terrier, which is a lawful breed to have."
