Construction worker dies after he's hit by crane

Authorities say a construction worker has died after he was struck by a crane near a bridge project along Interstate 80 in western Iowa.

Officials say 25-year-old Michael Williams of Cherokee was killed as his was directing the crane and its counter-weight hit him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say the accident happened around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Cass County near the Atlantic exit.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was expected to look into what happened.
