Director injured in fall from ladder
Sep 24, 2008 | Joan Hellyer | Bucks County Courier Times
Scott Parks, administrative director of Bucks County Technical High School, confirmed Tuesday that he is recovering from a head injury suffered in a fall at the school in Bristol Township.
On the phone from his hospital room at St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown Monday, Parks recounted the fall he suffered:
He and maintenance staff members, along with a construction manager, were climbing a ladder to the roof of the school's new $6 million auditorium. They intended to examine some heating and air- conditioning problems that are preventing the school from receiving an occupancy permit for the 600-seat auditorium.
Parks' dress shoes caught on the ladder and he fell a few feet onto a section of the roof. He was knocked unconscious when he hit the back of his head on a 4-inch gas main during the fall.
He spent several hours in the emergency room before being transferred to his hospital room. He is expected to make a full recovery.
Parks said he primarily is experiencing vision loss.
Leon Poeske, assistant director of the technical school, is temporarily in charge of the school off Wistar Road. He informed joint board committee members about the accident during their meeting Monday night.
Parks took over as administrative director of the school in 2004 after serving as assistant director for 17 years. The school serves the Bensalem, Bristol, Bristol Township, Morrisville, Neshaminy and Pennsbury school districts.
Prior to working in education, Parks worked in the heating, air-conditioning and ventilation trade.
