Elderly woman dies after Woburn accident
Jul 2, 2009 | Kathie Ragsdale | Wicked Local
Woburn - The wife of an elderly driver who crashed into a Woburn woman's car near Four Corners Tuesday afternoon has died, the district attorney's office has confirmed.
Katherine Casey, 84, of Malden, who was a passenger in the vehicle driven by her husband, Joseph Casey, 83, died early Wednesday morning at Lahey Clinic in Burlington, according to Corey Welford, a spokesman for Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone.
Woburn police said Casey's Toyota Camry crashed into a Chrysler Sebring driven by Claire Regan, 78, of Woburn, on Russell Street near the intersection of Old Cambridge Road. Regan was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where she remains under treatment with serious injuries.
Welford said Woburn Police and the State Police accident reconstruction team are still investigating the accident to determine whether any charges should be brought against Joseph Casey.
"There are no charges at this time," he said.Woburn Police spokesman Detective Ralph Coakley said police have filed an "immediate threat" petition with state registry officials to have Casey's license revoked.
The accident occurred just as legislators were debating possible measures to prevent further accidents involving elderly drivers, after a string of highly publicized incidents in which older drivers struck pedestrians in crossways in Massachusetts.
