Two people walk away unharmed after a plane crashes just short of the runway at the Barnstable Municipal Airport.
A pilot and student-pilot were the only two people on board the two-seat Piper airplane that went down near Willow Street in Yarmouth, just across from an NStar administrative facility.
State Police say the pilot, Christopher Tarozzi, 23, of Centerville, and the student pilot, 38-year-old David McCrossin, were on final approach when the plane began to lose power.
Investigators say Tarozzi took control of the aircraft, landing in an open area near the airport.
The accident temporarily shut down one of the main roads in and out of Hyannis.
